China Connecting People

In October the head of management faculty, Irina Shafranskaya, took part in the Place Branding Symposium, organized by a consortium of Chinese and Swedish universities. The conference was focused on “Positioning Cities: Innovative and Sustainable Strategies for City Development and Transformation”. Various topics within this theme were discussed in relation to city branding and positioning, such as governance, strategy, identity and heritage, inclusiveness, innovative urban planning, and atmosphere.

A climate of interactive discussion among the symposium participants was encouraged by having only one track, in which everyone participated, and by aiming to have a Power Point free conference. Towards the end of the symposium, the participants said that they felt inspired, had learnt a lot, as well as met interesting scholars and valuable contacts.

Irina Shafranskaya presented her research on city branding effects concerning the concept of a creative city and creative class targeting. This is a current faculty project based on data gathered during 3 years of the on-going city branding project in Perm.
